What lot size should I use on my funded account?

At a prop firm you don't fail on one bad trade: you fail by breaking the daily limit. Get your lot and how many losses in a row you can take.

Lot size on a funded account

Prop firms (FTMO, FundedNext, The5ers, GoatFunded…) usually have a daily loss limit (often 5%) and a max loss limit (often 10%). Hit it and you lose the account, even if you were up for the month.

Lot = risk $ ÷ (stop × value of 1 pip or $ with 1 lot)

Gold example: $100,000 account, 0.5% risk ($500), $5 stop:

500 ÷ (5 × 100) = 1.00 lot

With a 5% daily limit ($5,000) you'd need 10 losses in a row in one day to lose the account. At 2% per trade, 2 or 3 are enough.

FAQ

How much should I risk per trade on a funded account?

Most funded traders risk 0.25% to 1% per trade, so a normal losing streak doesn't hit the daily limit.

How is the daily loss limit calculated?

It depends on the prop firm: some use the day's starting balance, others the highest balance or equity. Read your account rules and enter the % that applies to you.

Does it work for FTMO, FundedNext or The5ers?

Yes: the lot calculation is the same on any MT4/MT5 account. Only the daily limit changes, which you can set in the "Daily limit %" field.

How do I avoid breaking the daily limit?

Small risk per trade, a max number of trades per day and stopping after 2 or 3 losses in a row. Logging your trades in a journal shows you when you break your rules.
