How index lot size is calculated

On US30, NAS100 and US500 the stop is measured in points. Most often 1 lot pays $1 per point, but some brokers use $10 or $0.10 — that's why you can change the contract.

Lot = risk $ ÷ (stop points × $ per point with 1 lot)

US30 example: $10,000 account, 1% risk ($100), 100-point stop, $1 per point:

100 ÷ (100 × 1) = 1.00 lot

On NAS100 with a 50-point stop it would be 2 lots for the same risk.

FAQ

How much is 1 point of US30 worth with 1 lot?

With most CFD brokers, $1 per point with 1 lot. Some use $10 or $0.10 per point contracts: check the symbol specification in MT5.

How much is 1 lot of NAS100?

Same as US30: usually $1 per point with 1 lot. Since NAS100 moves hundreds of points a day, 1 lot can be a lot of risk for a small account.

What's a normal stop on US30?

It depends on your strategy and timeframe, but intraday stops of 50 to 150 points are common. Measure your stop on the chart and enter it here.

How do I know what my broker pays per point?

In MT5: right-click the symbol → Specification. Check "Contract size" and "Tick size"; if your broker pays $10 per point with 1 lot, enter 10 as the contract.
